Zoo History & Tecton Walk & Talk

Wednesday 4th September 2024
6.30 pm – 8.30 pm

Discover Dudley Zoo & Castle’s rich history through this unique guided tour, which will focus on the zoo’s early years, and the construction of our 12 listed Tecton buildings.

You’ll have an opportunity to see the zoo after hours, while learning about the rich diversity of species that have called our site home over the past nine decades.

The 12 listed Lubetkin-designed concrete structures at Dudley Zoo, built between 1936 and 1937, are the greatest collection of surviving Tecton buildings in the world and some of the most important modern movement buildings in the UK. Over the years, they’ve been home to a range of incredibly species including elephants, orangutans, chimpanzees, dolphins and killer whales!

Through this evening event, we’ll be exploring the form and function of these incredible buildings – while also sharing our plans for their future development and restoration.

Tickets: £8.00 per adult & £5 per child (8 – 15 yrs)

The Zoo History & Tecton Walk & Talk does not include Zoo admission. You must stay with the tour guide on the designated pathways at all times.

All guests should arrive at our customer car park via Tipton Road, DY1 4AL.  Drive down the Tipton Road towards the Black Country Museum from Castlegate Island, turn left at the traffic lights onto Discovery Way.  Turn left at the small roundabout and halfway down Zoological Drive, there are some large double green gates on the right hand side where you will access the site.

The tour will commence from this point once everyone has arrived.

Due to the distance between the entry and exit point, all guests will be asked to leave the site at the same time, unless in case of an emergency.

Tickets are not valid in conjunction with any other offer or promotion.  Tickets are non-refundable, non-exchangeable and have no cash value.

Due to the hilly nature of the site, special arrangements must be pre-arranged for disabled guests and people with limited mobility.
