It’s the summer solstice and what better way to highlight the longest day of the year than by celebrating World Giraffe Day!
To mark the event’s international debut we’ll be doing a special informal mid-afternoon questions and answers session with Section Leader, Jay Haywood about our family group of Rothschild’s giraffes males Kubwa and baby Kito, and females Mia and Josie to offer visitors an insight into this fascinating species that originates from Uganda and Kenya.
Today’s additional daylight hours also bring a premium growing period for the giraffes’ favourite browse which keepers cut and overwinter the leaves in giant sealed tubs because we like our Rothschild’s family to have treats all year round!
