DZG’s mongoose and capybara are staying snug, thanks to the natural warmth of woodchip!
To spruce up the section, ungulate keepers added piles of new chipping to the South American paddock and mongoose enclosure, after tree maintenance was carried out across the 40-acre site.
But when the time came for staff to spread out the chipping across the enclosures, they discovered the animals all huddled on top of the woodchip piles, which had become toasty and warm!
Ungulates Team Leader, Jay Haywood, said: “The woodchip piles had become really warm and were a perfect form of natural central heating for them all.
“They all looked so cosy that we didn’t want to disturb them, so we left the piles in place for them to scatter about as they wished.”
