What the Keepers said!

Our Keeper for a Day packages have proved hugely popular since we introduced them more than a decade ago, and offer a special opportunity to work with some of the rarest and most endangered species in the world.

Participants work alongside their own personal zoo keeper across all animal sections throughout their day.

We offer two packages: Keeper For a Day (adults and over 14s) and Little Zoo Keeper (8-13 years) and the experiences take place on Mondays Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays throughout the whole of the year.

You can do it as a single experience or double up with a partner or friend and Keeper Days also make wonderful gifts for all occasions! And it’s giving twice over as the purchase actively supports DZG’s vital conservation programmes.

It’s a fantastic experience and one that you’ll never forget – you’ll be talking about it for months!

Don’t just take our word for it – meet a few Keepers who’ve done the experience for themselves. Here’s what they had to say about their day at DZG . . .

Corey had a grrreat time when she became a DZG Keeper for the Day. The 21-year-old loved everything about the experience, especially feeding big cats including a tiger and snow leopard.

She said: “I had a brilliant time. The experience was a wonderful present for my 20th birthday from my Mum, who knows how much I like animals.”

She praised DZG staff for being well-informed and friendly and said the day was so enjoyable as it was an intimate experience rather than being part of a big group.

Liam Garside and Bethany Burns got a perfect poolside pose with a Humboldt penguin when they became DZG Keepers for the Day. The pair loved feeding the penguins as well as Sumatran tigers Joao and Daseep.

Bethany said: “Liam bought the joint experience as a Christmas present and it was just fantastic. I would fully recommend it.

“The zoo keepers were very enthusiastic and feeding the tigers was amazing.”

Ian and Emily Bristow first came in 2013 and they’ve just returned after being given the joint treat for Christmas.

She said: “It was such an amazing day the first time that we wanted to come back.

“Once again we spent the whole day going around all the different animal groups and it was such a personal experi
