What a week!

We’re all smiles here – even chimpanzee Malaika, after an exceptional February half term which saw just under 28,000 visitors enjoy some fun in the sun!

The holiday week saw the best figures on record for the time of year with a grand total of 27,960 people welcomed to our 40-acre site which led us to extend our opening hours for four days to cope with demand.

Over three days (Friday 22 – Sunday 24) we clocked 14,891 visitors coming through our gates, almost the same amount we had for the whole of last year’s February half term when 15,612 made the trip.

And on Saturday 23 alone we peaked with 5,565 visitors on site, with popular attractions including Lorikeet Lookout, Penguin Bay and Lemur Wood.

Zoo Director Derek Grove, said: “I’ve worked here over three decades and I don’t think I’ve seen as good a week as we had, not even in August.

“The visitor numbers are incredible and it was so nice to see people coming out to enjoy the stunning weather and have a great family day out at the zoo.”
