Well done, Jade!

There were smiles all round from Senior Keeper Jade Reddall who’s our latest fully-qualified recruit!

Jade has received her certificate after successfully passing the demanding two-year Diploma in the Management of Zoo and Aquarium Animals (DMZAA) course, which is the industry standard for training zoo keepers.

Jade, who has worked at DZG since 2013, said: “I’ve really enjoyed doing it, but it’s been hard work, so I am glad it’s finished and I’m really pleased with the results.”

The DMZAA is run in partnership with BIAZA and Sparsholt College in Hampshire and is designed for people already working in the zoo community, with studies carried out alongside day-to-day animal care duties.

And as part of the course Jade had to produce a specialist study, which she chose to complete on her beloved geladas – so spending 300 hours observing her favourite species wasn’t too much of a chore!

All keeper research projects are added to our on-site library, which provides a comprehensive information base for our staff studies.
