We have lift-off!
Our vintage chairlift is ready for lift-off after undergoing its annual inspection.
Following thorough checks, independent assessors have given DZG the all-clear for another year so the popular ride will be up and running this weekend.
Over the last couple of days our site maintenance team have been busy re-installing the 41 numbered seats back on to the steel rope to get it going in time for the Easter holidays.
The annual safety check involved examinations of the ride’s mechanisms and steel rope as well as x-rays of the chairs.
Zoo Manager Matt Lewis said: “The chairlift has gone through the rigorous tests we run each year to make sure it’s safe to operate for the next 12 months.
“We are delighted to have it up and running in time for the Easter break as our visitors definitely enjoy the unique ride!”
The chairlift – the only one of its kind in the country – was reintroduced in August 2012, thanks to a £117,000 Heritage Lottery-funded refurb.
The two-minute ride flies over our gelada baboons and Sulawesi crested black macaques.
