Waterfall work for lions

Big cat staff are carrying out essential maintenance work on the waterfall in Lion Ridge, to get it up and running again for DZG’s three Asiatic lions.

Keeper Jay Haywood, said: “Over the last few months the waterfall’s plumbing has become clogged up and stopped working, so as we’re having to do DIY work on it anyway, we’ve decided to repoint it and improve the water flow.

“It is going to take time to do as we are only able to complete the work before and after zoo opening when the lions are safely locked inside, so we can only do bits at a time but we’re aiming to have it running again in time for the warmer weather as Mwamba, Kyra and Asha will love splashing around in it.”
