Undercover operation

Rare species are staying cosy undercover after new roofs have been installed on their DZG homes.

The babirusa, Geoffroy’s cat and reindeer sheds and the chimps’ tunnel, which leads to their one-acre paddock, have been fitted with new powder-coated green corrugated steel tops replacing the old felt roofs.

Assistant Curator Richard Brown, pictured adding the finishing touches to the chimp’s tunnel, said: “The old roofs had deteriorated with the weather over time but the steel sheeting will provide a much longer term solution for us and all the species will definitely be well protected from the elements.”
