Tourism accreditation

A secret inspection to DZG has seen us receive the VisitEngland Accreditation Certificate for the 17th year running.

The Visitor Attraction Quality Assurance Scheme (VAQAS) marque is awarded annually by the tourism regulatory body, alongside an accompanying report of the inspector’s visit, which commended the appearance of the zoo and castle grounds, as well as the introduction of several new enclosures and species, including binturong and naked mole rats – pictured above alongside DZG Graphic Designer, Rachel Lane, who designed the informative exhibit signage.

Zoo Manager Matt Lewis said: “The inspection provides an unbiased view of the experience our visitors receive at DZG and it was pleasing to read how complimentary the report was about our knowledgeable staff, our varied animal daily talk and feed programme and informative animal signage.”

The report also highlighted the zoo’s easy accessible carpark and entrance, the vast range of merchandise available in the Safari Shop and the site’s well-maintained grounds.

Matt added: “We’re a unique family attraction and we’ve got lots of plans in the pipeline to further enhance the day-to-day experience for visitors this coming year.”
