Top marks for Jo!

Keeper, Jo Turner, is celebrating exam success after receiving nine distinctions and a merit for her Diploma in the Management of Zoo and Aquarium Animals.

The two-hour paper tested students on zoo history, design, conservation, research, animal health and welfare.

Jo said: “I’m really pleased as I didn’t expect to do so well. It’s a hard course to do as we still carry out our daily duties on site during the day and then I start studying straight after tea each evening, so it’s quite tiring.”

DZG Registrar and Research Co-ordinator, Dr David Beeston, who is also Regional Co-ordinator for the course said: “We are delighted with Jo’s results and we are sure she will achieve similar success with her second year studies.

“At DZG we take the training of our staff very seriously and this qualification is now the industry standard for training zoo keepers.”
