We’re planning a grrreat day on Friday as we mark Global Tiger Day.
Thanks to Phillp Collett for the grrrreat tiger pic!
Critically endangered Sumatran tigers, Daseep and Joao, will be helping us raise awareness about the plight of tigers in the wild, where there are fewer than 400 of their beautiful species left.
Make sure you join us for our tiger talk at 1pm, where our Presenters will be explaining all about the vital conservation efforts being taken to help stop the big cat from disappearing from our planet altogether and watch as Daseep and Joao enjoy some enrichment treats from keepers.
And help us raise funds for 21st Century Tiger, who are once again using our gorgeous five year-old Daseep, who is ranked as the world’s second most important female in the genetic pool, as their poster girl for this year’s campaign – with a photo taken by amateur wildlife photographer, Tal Chohan.
The initiative supports conservation projects who are working to eliminate major threats to tigers.
We’ll be selling raffle tickets throughout Friday for one lucky visitor and a guest to give the tigers their tea at the end of the day, while Saturday and Sunday visitors can purchase tickets to win one of the Safari Shop’s best selling Daseep luxury cushions, worth £19.99
Zoo Manager, Matt Lewis, said: “Global Tiger Day is always an important event in our calendar as we work to raise awareness and funds to help save such an enigmatic creature.
“Daseep and Joao are two of our most popular animals here at DZG and have legions of fans, who we hope will help us to help them. “
