Thank You, Zoo Keepers!

It’s International Zoo Keeper Day, when we say ‘THANK YOU’ to our keepers for their contributions and care towards the conservation of all creatures great and small!

The event is celebrated around the globe on St Francis’ Day (October 4) – the worldwide Feast Day of Saint Francis of Assisi who is the patron saint of animals and the environment.
Zoo keeping is a tough gig. It’s demanding, physical and tiring and it’s definitely not for the faint-hearted but for our team of over 40 keepers, it’s the best job in the world!
Come rain or shine you’ll spot our keepers out on site, caring for some of the rarest animals in the world. And they’re all working for the same goal, to save species from extinction through breeding programs, education, conservation and research.
Here at DZC we’re proudly associated with more than 50 breeding programmes, both across Europe and internationally, to help increase the population of endangered animals and provide a sustainable captive safety net against the very real threat of extinction.
And this year we’re providing funding to eight animal conservation projects out in the field, including Sintang Orangutan Center, AB Conservation, Save the Tasmanian Devil and ZGAP Capuchin conservation, they’re all in addition to the regular animal awareness and fundraising days we host on site, all of which are organised by our keeping team.
