More than 600 toddlers and families pounded the paths around Dudley Zoo and Castle to pull in pounds for children’s charity Barnardo’s.
DZG monkey mascot Monty was joined by TV’s Teletubby Po and charity ambassador Rebekah Vardy, of I’m A Celebrity fame, as the Barnardo’s Big Toddle got underway yesterday.
And we’re expecting hundreds more youngsters on site today for the second day of the annual sponsored walk for under-5s.
The event, one of the biggest organised Toddles in the UK, had a nature theme this year and gardener Anthony Gwilt made sure the toddlers had a colourful welcome as he had just finished planting shrubs and bedding plants near the iconic Tecton entrance.
Dudley Zoo’s Marketing Assistant, Louise Curtis, said: “This year’s event got off to a brilliant start and some children dressed as animals, insects or flowers. We are looking forward to welcoming lots more playgroups, nurseries and families today.
“Everyone taking part will be helping make a difference to children’s lives and have a wonderful day to remember at the zoo too!”
Barnardo’s Regional Director, Hugh Sherriffe, said: “We are sincerely grateful to Dudley Zoo for hosting one of the biggest Toddles in the UK.
“It’s a great opportunity for under-5s to have lots of fun with their friends and families while raising money to help disadvantaged children.”
