Such a smelly job!

DZG presenter, Caroline Howard, got her hands dirty when she carried out an annual spring clean on a tank of mud snails.

The 50 tiny snails are used in the Discovery Centre in education sessions and are part of our native species conservation work.

Caroline said: “The mud snails are a UK species so they don’t need to be cleaned often as they live in stagnant pools.

“They also need algae to feed on which is another reason why we only clean them out seasonally, so it’s quite a smelly job when we do it.”
