This gorgeous beast is a Peruvian black beauty stick insect (Peruphasma schultei) and originates from a tiny native range of about five hectares in Peru.
The species, which was discovered as recently as 2005, looks like it is made out of velvet.
Don’t get too friendly they produce a pungent fluid as a defence mechanism when alarmed that can be an irritant to human skin.
