DZG’s animals were served breakfast by some special guests when SPICE West Midlands took part in a Wake Up the Zoo experience.
Twenty members of the adult activity group joined keepers in a behind the scenes glimpse of life at DZG as they went about their early morning duties of cleaning and preparing breakfast for some of the site’s animals.
Led by Presenter Langan Turner, the group met the Brazilian tapirs in the South American paddock, giving them an early morning tickle before feeding mealworms to the meerkats and watching keepers feed the Sulawesi crested black macaques, before finishing their two-hour guided tour with a full English breakfast in the Oak Kitchen at the Queen Mary Restaurant.
Langan said: “Everyone in the group seemed to thoroughly enjoy the tour and being given access to parts of zoo life that they wouldn’t normally see on an everyday zoo visit.
“After breakfast the group stayed on site and enjoyed seeing the rest of the animals at their own leisure.”
