Solihull College critters

DZG’s Malagasy hissing cockroaches, Pierre and Marie, road tested new homes during a special educational workshop.

The two cockroaches were guests of honour at the Solihull College group session, who visited DZG to learn about enclosure design.

During their visit, students discovered how staff go about designing enclosures for different species of animals – incorporating climbing frames and public viewing spaces.

Presenters also revealed the many off-show dens and areas, which are needed in all enclosures for the animals and keepers to use.

The students finished their workshop by designing and making suitable enclosures for the Discovery Centre’s cockroach pair.
