Siblings’ DZG day

A Shropshire schoolboy celebrated his tenth birthday with a cuddle from a tapir!

Marcus Constantinou, from Ackleton and sisters, 12-year-old Madelene and Alexandra, 13, took part in a Little Zoo Keeper experience meeting some of the site’s smaller and tamer animals and discovering a few facts about their new-found friends along the way.

Marcus said: “I really enjoyed meeting the tapirs. I didn’t know much about the species before so it was nice to learn all about them from their keepers. They were really friendly and enjoyed being cuddled.”

Madelene’s highlight was getting up close to meerkats and penguins and she added: ” The penguins were so cute waddling around and the meerkats were really inquisitive.”

While Alexandra enjoyed quizzing our keepers and getting to grips with a ferret!

She said: “The zoo keepers were very kind and helpful and answered all our questions about the animals. I enjoyed holding the ferret even though it was a bit smelly!”

The experience was booked by mum, Lee-Ann, who wanted to support her local zoo after she read on DZG’s website how all money raised from Keeper for a Day bookings goes towards important ongoing projects within the zoo.

If you would like to book a Keeper for a Day experience as a gift for a loved one, why not find out more by clicking here.

As Lee-Ann discovered, the cost of the day helps DZG’s ongoing conservation projects and day-to-day work caring for some of the world’s rarest animals.
