It’s all change at DZG this week as we’ve had a section swap!
Senior Keeper Nicola Wright wth Elliot the penguin
Nicola Wright is returning to her roots and is now Section Leader of the birds, chimps and farm.
Nicola, who began her training on the avian section, said: “I love the birds and it’s been a few years since I worked on the section, so I’m dusting the cobwebs off my bird knowledge and I’m looking forward to learning some falconry skills with the birds of prey and it’s nice to be able to look after Humboldt penguin, Elliot, again as I handreared him as a chick.”
Senior Keeper Sam Grove, Senior Keeper Jodie Dryden and Trainee Keeper Chris Leeson
Elsewhere across site, the Reptile House is now part of the Ungulates and carnivore section, which means Senior Keeper, Sam Grove will begin working with the sealions, big cats and hoofed stock, while the section’s senior keepers will also work with the reptiles.
Meanwhile Senior Keeper, Jodie Dryden has relocated to Upper Primates, where she’ll be working with lemurs, orang utans, geladas, spider monkeys and Sulawesi crested macaques, alongside Trainee Keeper, Chris Leeson, who has also joined the section from the farm.
Curator Richard Brown, said: “Keepers rotate sections to broaden their animal skills and knowledge.
“Although there are changes for staff this week there won’t be any difference for our visitors and it will remain business as usual.”
