Scrub-a-dub-tub

Cleaning out the bath tub means a twice weekly scrub with a broom for DZG’s sealion keepers.

sealion-pool-webThe pool, which is set in the 11th century Dudley Castle moat, is cleaned by hand each week, one side is drained and refilled each Monday, while the other side is tackled every Friday.

Keeper Adam Walker said: “Each side, which contains more than 55,000 gallons, takes around four hours to clean and we use good old elbow grease and a brush to scrub the green algae from the sides once the water has drained.”

While it’s hard work for keepers, cleaning days don’t seem to bother Patagonian sealions, Orry, Cleopatra and Shirley, who happily move from pool to pool with a promise of their favourite fish.
