It’s Go Green Week so we’re doing our bit by recycling scrap metal from across the DZG site.

And our animals will benefit from some extra food treats thanks to a donation from Mason Metals in Brierley Hill, who collected three lorry loads of unwanted scrap.
Zoo Manager, Matt Lewis, said: “We’re grateful for the help of Mason Metals who removed the metal for recycling, which staff had gathered up from across our 40-acre Castle Hill site.”
Go Green Week is a national initiative, running from February 8 13, which is organised by student campaigning group People and Planet to draw peoples’ attention to greener alternative options and climate change.
As well as scrap metal, DZG staff regularly recycle newspapers and unwanted boxes in the Discovery Centre as bedding or enrichment exercises for its residents.
Elsewhere across the site animal waste is recycled for garden use and trees are recycled by our gardeners for woodchip.
While office staff recycle paper, printer toners and cartridges.
