Remembering the fallen

Zoo Director Derek Grove will be representing DZG at the town’s annual Remembrance Sunday event today.

Derek will be laying a poppy wreath at the Dudley cenotaph in Ednam Road on behalf of all the zoo’s staff, who are encouraged to wear poppies on their uniform out of respect for our servicemen and women.

Following the outbreak of World War II in 1939, just 18 months after DZG opened, five keepers, along with the head gardener were called to service.
