A zoo keeping experience at DZG rekindled fond childhood memories for Derbyshire animal lover, Jackie Titheridge who was treated to the unique gift by her family for her 60th birthday.
Jackie said: “It was all so amazing and from the moment my day started I was made to feel very special.
“I last came to the zoo when I was ten years-old, when my dad used to bring me and my sister from Derby on the train, so I vaguely remembered the layout from when I was a girl and it was fantastic to remember previous visits as I went round.”
During her day, Jackie shadowed DZG staff, helping prepare food and meet many of the animal collection, including ungulates, primates and birds.
Jackie added: “I loved meeting the apes and small primates and was surprised by the giraffes, I also enjoyed meeting the snow leopards, especially the baby.
“But my favourite experience would probably be the penguins. I remember my dad loved the penguins at the zoo, so getting the chance to handfeed them, while remembering him, was quite a special moment for me.
“The whole day itself far exceeded my expectations, from the friendly staff, to the vast knowledge of information I was given about all the animals I met. I’m so glad I was able to experience the day at DZG.”
