Red lory, Yellow lory!

Red lory, Yellow lory, that’s the chant in the Discovery Centre as presenters begin a training programme with a couple of colourful birds.

Two 14-year-old male yellow-backed chattering lories (Lorius garrulous flavopalliatus) – aptly named Red and Yellow – have translocated from Colchester Zoo to DZG where they will be demonstrating their playful nature in our daily Go Wild! theatre shows.   Lories are nectarivores, feeding on pollen, flowers, soft fruits, and insects; tufts of fine hairs at the tip of their tongue help them collect the nectar.
