Proficient with power tools!

Six members of the DZG team have proved they are a dab hand with power tools after successfully completing a safety awareness course.

Head of Lower Primates Nicola Wright organised the training – the first time DZG staff have participated in the one-day course run by Speedy.

Nicola completed the training with Birds Senior Keeper Ben Vanes, Upper Primates Senior Keeper Sam Grove, Head of Ungulates Jay Haywood, Development Team Member Mike Grace and Maintenance Worker Drew Jordan.

All six were awarded certificates after completing the course which included noise awareness, electrical safety, dust awareness and maintenance and cleaning of power tools.

Nicola said: “We spent half the day in the classroom studying the theory side and taking a health and safety test and the second part of the course was practical.

“The staff chosen to take part were those who make the most use of power tools as part of their day-to-day roles at the zoo.

“We can now all get more involved in general maintenance, building enclosures and making objects for animal enrichment activities.”
