Presents galore for Daseep

Sumatran tigress, Daseep, enjoyed presents galore this morning in celebration of her sixth birthday!

Our beautiful birthday girl couldn’t wait to get stuck into her brightly pink wrapped boxes, which keepers had filled with smelly straw and her favourite sprat treats, which were left piled up on the climbing frame of the tiger Tecton enclosure.

Senior Keeper, Sarah Evans, pictured right, said: “Daseep loved her presents, which she pounced on as soon as she spotted them.

“We also slathered the outside of them with Marmite, which she loves. It also meant Joao kept well away, as he’s not a fan of the malt flavoured spread, so she got to open them all by herself”

And our popular girl, who’s ranked as the second most important female in the genetic species pool, also received a glittery card and a big jar of marmite from zoo member, Maureen Dutton.

Sarah added: “Daseep’s got quite a stash now of Marmite which will keep her going for quite a while, but it’s one of her favourite flavours, so it always goes down well.”

If you’re on site today, join our presenters for the daily tiger talk at 1pm today when they’ll be singing happy birthday to our tigress.
