Plants aplenty!

We’re saying a HUGE Thank You to staff at a Belbroughton garden centre, who have not only donated hundreds of pounds worth of plants to DZC, but are now busy fundraising for us too!

Earlier this year, Nuyard Beechcroft Garden Centre contacted us following our appeal for houseplants for our Reptile House and provided us with enough free plants to add to our dwarf crocodile habitat and parma wallaby paddock.

They’ve since continued to donate further vegetation for our brand-new painted dog habitat and have been invaluable in providing advice to keepers about future planting in various habitats and areas around the 40-acre site.

DZC’s Conservation and Development Co-ordinator, Jack Williams, said: “Nuyard’s generosity means a great deal to us and we extend our grateful thanks for their ongoing support to Dudley Zoo and Castle.

“Their donations have supported the ongoing improvement of a number of our animal habitats here at the zoo and saved us a lot of money in the process, which we can use in other areas of our conservation work.

“We look forward to forging a great partnership in the future.”

And in a bid to extend their support to DZC, the kind-hearted Nuyard team have also set up a Justgiving page to generate additional funds to purchase enrichment items for the animals, as well as organising a collection for those wanting to donate physical enrichment goods.

Nuyard Beechcroft, Deputy Manager, Jamie Wainwright, pictured above, meeting giraffes Josie and Kira, said: “The staff at Dudley Zoo are a breath of fresh air.

“With their tireless efforts to preserve endangered species, provide top class care and educate the public on exotic species; it’s only fair that someone stands up and makes life a little easier for them.

“This is our local zoo, with staff from the local area and our ethos is to support our local area in any way we are able to.”
