There’s a treat in store for DZG storeman Mick Young who has been voted employee of the month.
The hardworking storeman was put forward for the honour by Zoo Manager Matt Lewis after staying behind after work to help our maintenance team.
Mick, who has worked at the zoo for three years, helped finish building our impressive Snow Leopard extension and stayed late refurbishing our vintage chairlift too.
Matt said: “Congratulations to Mick on his award. The extra tasks he took on were not part of his normal duties and he really did go above and beyond to help get these projects completed.”
Mick, who has been presented with a certificate and gift vouchers, said: “I’ve never won anything in my life, not even a certificate, so this was quite a surprise. I used to work in maintenance before joining the zoo so I was more than happy to help out.”
His daily duties involve ordering and sorting the vast supplies of fruit, vegetables, meat and fish for our animals and getting in cleaning products and other non-food items.
Every Monday morning Mick goes on the bread run to collect 90 loaves to feed several animals including our giraffes, Brazilian tapirs and Farm animals.
