An animal mad teenager overcame his fears when he got close to rare Humboldt penguins during a day at DZG.
Matthew Goring travelled two hours with his family from Holmfirth in Yorkshire for the experience, during which he met, fed and cleaned some of the residents on site, including primates, big cats and birds.
Matthew’s dad, Steve, said: “Matthew’s favourite part of the day was feeding the sealions.
“He’ll also be the first to agree that penguins are not his favourite animal, but he was really proud to overcome his concerns about being pecked and he actually quite enjoyed the penguin feed as a result.”
Matthew was treated to the Be a Keeper experience for his sixteenth birthday by his parents and the family are already planning a return visit.
Steve added: “We chose Dudley Zoo after researching various experiences on the web.
“It looked great value and we were not disappointed.
“The two hour journey was well worth the effort and seeing Matthew enjoy his day was priceless.
“Thank you for a great day. It’s on our to do list to visit again soon and have another look around.”
