Penguin popularity

Penguins have been flying off Safari Shop shelves, thanks to a TV Christmas advertising campaign.

Since the launch of John Lewis’ Monty the Penguin advert, DZG visitors have been bagging merchandise featuring the black and white bird, prompting staff to order new stock.

Head of Media and Communications, Jill Hitchman, said: “We’ve seen a steady rise in sales of all penguin-themed stock and have ordered extra cuddly toys to cope with the demand.

“It seems a lot of people will discover penguin gifts in their stockings this year.”

Items available in the Safari Shop include a range of cuddly toys, from a mini £3.99 version through to a two-foot £27.99 bird.

Visitors can also purchase penguin stationery, priced £2.50, plant pals for £3.99, resin ornaments from £5.99 and postcards of DZG’s Humboldts for 75p.

And don’t forget you can also adopt one of our very own Humboldts from our 70-strong colony in Penguin Bay.
