Penguin lessons

Fifty-nine children from Bromsgrove Preparatory School got up close to our colony of Humboldt penguins during a trip to DZG.

The pupils, aged seven and eight, took part in an Iceworlds workshop in the Discovery Centre.

Led by Presenter, Pam Midwood, the youngsters discovered all about the animals who live in the Antarctica and Arctic and met the education department’s resident chinchilla, as Pam explained how they have adapted to the extreme climate with their thick fur.

Following the workshop session the children were also able to learn about DZG’s penguins living in the UK’s largest Humboldt colony as well as watching keepers feeding them their daily fishy breakfast.
