Partridges’ winter home

DZG’s roul roul partridges have headed indoors for the winter.

Bird keepers have relocated the tropical birds into off-show heated aviaries in preparation for the colder months.

Keeper, Kriss Pearson, said: “Roul roul partridges are native to the tropical rainforests of Southeastern Asian countries including Thailand, Malaysia, Sumatra and Borneo, so don’t cope well during the cold months.

“They will remain in the warm until springtime, when we’ll return them back to their outdoor enclosure, which they share with the lovebirds and java sparrows.”

Roul roul partridges are a striking species, with the female sporting bright green plumage with a grey head, while males are dark metallic green in colour with a tall red crest on top of their head.
