Military macaws, Mario and Peaches, are going nuts for festive leftovers.
The parrot pair have been tucking into surplus Christmas chestnuts as a special treat from keepers.
Birds Section Leader, Kellie Piper, said: “All our parrots have healthy nuts as part of their diet as they contain fats and oils which are great for energy levels.
“Our smaller birds tend to prefer hazelnuts and it is only the bigger parrots like the macaws who can cope with large nuts such as chestnuts, brazils and walnuts.
“Their beaks are brilliant nut crackers and they can crack the shell open with just a single bite before getting to the nut inside.
“They certainly don’t waste any time and managed to crack them open a lot quicker than I could at Christmas!”
