New Zealand holidaymakers, Susan, Oliver and Gemma Gosling found time in their busy itinerary to learn more about some of the world’s rarest animals here at DZG.
The day of the visit coincided with 10 year-old Gemma’s birthday, who was treated to a Little Zoo Keeper experience, where she met some of the zoo’s tamer animals, including our Brazilian tapirs, Humboldt penguins and farm animals.
Meanwhile mum, Susan, who emigrated from Leicestershire in 1999 and is back visiting the UK for the first time in a decade, came face-to-face with the residents in Lemur Wood with 16-year-old nephew, Joseph Deacy, as they both took part in a close encounter.
And 14 year-old Oliver joined his Grandad, Graham Payne, to meet our Bornean orangutans in the special behind the scenes experience.
Susan, from Te Awamutu, said: “Gemma loves animals and wants to be a vet when she’s older and we wanted to do something for her birthday.
“We spotted the Little Zoo Keeper experience and saw we could do close encounters too.
“Dad loves orangs and celebrated his 80th birthday this year, so I booked that for him and Oliver and surprised Joseph with the lemur experience when we arrived at the zoo.”
“It’s been awesome and we’ve all had a great day exploring the zoo.”
