Dudley Castle’s courtyard has become the perfect training space for DZG’s Construction Supervisor, Carlo Diponio.
As the 43-year-old is gearing up for the Lichfield Half Marathon on Sunday, May 4, in aid of Birmingham Children’s Hospital – where his eight-year-old son, Leonardo, is undergoing treatment for leukaemia.
Carlo, pictured right, from Wednesfield, said: “Leonardo was diagnosed in August 2013 and since then we have spent many hours in the hospital with him. The staff are all so fantastic that I vowed to do all I can to raise money for the ward as my way of saying thank you.”
Not only is Carlo using the courtyard in the heart of the zoological gardens to train for the half marathon, he’s also preparing for our upcoming Onesie Walk, which takes place the day before on Saturday, May 3, to raise money for DZG’s conservation projects and 21st Century Tiger which supports tigers in the wild.
Carlo, who is supervising repair work to DZG’s Modernist Tecton buildings, added: “I’m putting in as much training as I can ahead of the half marathon.
“But it does help preparing for something fun as well, like the Onesie Walk and working out on the zoo’s 40-acre hilly site each day is certainly keeping me fit.”
He added: “DZG have been very supportive of my efforts for the hospital and have kindly donated a family pass and other merchandise to be raffled off to raise funds.”
