On reflection . . .

Our new zoo van offered cause for reflection for one vain peacock who attacked the shiny black paintwork when he spotted a rival – who turned out to be his own mirror image!

Head of Media and Communications, Jill Hitchman, said: “The van is brand new, and is now being covered in DZG logo wraps, but was in use across the zoo site for a few days after we took delivery.   dzg_new_van_4_web   “Our free-roaming peacocks spotted it immediately and were drawn to the shiny surface because they could see their reflection, which they took to be rival birds.    “One particularly bold peacock attacked the paintwork with his beak and caused quite a scratch – thankfully, the wraps will conceal it, so we won’t be able to see the mark when it’s covered.”   She added: “It’s not the first time the colourful males have damaged zoo property, last year a newly-installed information sign had to be replaced after the same peacock attacked a life-size image of himself, believing it to be a rival male!”
