November Nature Challenge
During lockdown#2 we’re encouraging local residents to help us document nature on our doorstep as part of the Birmingham and Black Country November Nature Challenge.
It’s really simple – grab your phone, download the free iNaturalist app and get snapping the wildlife around you – from fungi to foxes!
During November there’s also an extra challenge to find which area – Birmingham, Sandwell, Dudley, Wolverhampton and Walsall – can record the most observations – and of course we want Dudley to win!
Once you’ve taken your photo, upload it to the app with a location. It’s then logged, reviewed and identified by a specialist.
DZC Conservation Officer, Chris Leeson, who has been snapping the native critters in our on-site bug house, said: “During the last lockdown there was an increase in native wildlife sightings throughout the country, so it will be interesting to see what we spot here in the Black Country and Birmingham during this period.
“The data will also help build local conservation efforts as well as protecting native wildlife – and it’s fun to get out and about and look at the world around you.”
C’mon Dudley!
