Becoming a DZG keeper for the day was one of the best things 14-year-old Nina Denton has ever done!
The teenager from Northampton was treated to the experience as a thank you gift from her grandmother, who picked Dudley Zoo after the family enjoyed a previous visit to the site and were blown away by the zoo’s setting around a medieval castle.
Nina said: “Being with the animals was awesome and I cannot believe I was able to feed them and get to know them.
“The experience was loads better than what I expected and it was fantastic to be able to learn about the animals from their keepers and finding out how to become a zoo keeper.”
During her day, Nina worked with Ungulates, Birds and Primates keepers as she was introduced to some of the animals on each section, including penguins, lemurs, tapirs, chimpanzees and giraffes gaining first hand experience of what it’s like to care for some of the rarest animals in the world.
Nina added: “You get so close to the animals, it was a like a dream come true for me. I would definitely recommend it to anyone who loves animals.
“The staff were so friendly, the animals amazing and the day was perfect. I didn’t want it to end.”
