A clutch of Southern crested newts have made their DZG debut.
Presenter Caroline Howard said: “It’s very exciting as this is the first time we have bred this species.”
Newts lay their eggs individually in aquatic leaves, which they fold over as protection and Caroline played mum to a few of the youngsters, by regularly feeding them daphnia tiny small aquatic crustaceans, more commonly known as water fleas.
