New-look home for owls

Great grey owls Granville and Ursula are settling back into their new-look home – and keepers are hoping renovations will prove successful and help them breed.

Keepers temporarily took the two owls off-show last month while renovating the hill aviary, while the team, alongside our maintenance department cut down the enclosure’s dense foliage to allow in more light – which birds need lots of during the breeding season – as well as adding new nesting boxes, rockery, posts and perches.

As past breeding encouragement has failed in the past, we’ve got our fingers crossed this latest work does the trick, but as great grey nesting occurs within the next few months, hopefully we’ll soon be hearing some tiny twit twoos!
