New arrivals

Dudley Zoo and Castle is bursting with pride after welcoming a new male Asiatic lion.

Keshari transferred from Edinburgh Zoo at the end of July and celebrated his fourth birthday shortly after arriving at the Midlands attraction.

Zoo Manager, Matt Lewis, said: “Keshari has settled into his new home, alongside our female lioness, Asha, very quickly.

“He’s a wonderful addition to Lion Ridge and already seems to have amassed lots of fans, as we’ve seen lots of wonderful photographs of him from visitors who spotted him exploring the paddock over the summer months and he’s already receiving lots of adopters too.”

As well as Keshari, DZC has also welcomed a male wolverine named Floki.

The one-year-old arrived from Tierwelt Herberstein in Austria over the summer to join its resident female, Helga.

Matt added: “Floki is very confident and laid back and he too has settled really well into DZC alongside Helga.”

Both moves form part of international breeding programmes for the two species.
