Mini beasts

Visitors to the British Mini Day at Himley Hall had plenty of Dudley Zoo’s minis to marvel at – our mini beasts.

Our outreach team took a whole host of creepy crawlies to the annual motoring event, allowing visitors to get up close and personal with Madagascan hissing cockroaches and African giant land snails.

They also took along Drake the Brazilian rainbow snake, a lizard, fancy rats, guinea pigs, ferrets and of course the cuddly outreach orang mascot, Pongo.

Outreach Co-ordinator Sally Skinner, along with Melissa Adams and Holly Peters, displayed various biofacts at the DZG information stand and they spoke to people about the animals we have on site and our global conservation work.

Sally said: “Our outreach animals received a great reception at the British Mini Day event and many of the car enthusiasts and their families came and held our snails and cockroaches and asked lots of questions.”

The British Mini Club Show saw hundreds of collectors bring classic and more modern Minis to Himley Hall’s grounds earlier this month to celebrate the iconic car.

Look out for our outreach animals next week at the Staffordshire County Show on May 30 and 31 and Cosford Air Show on June 10.
