Award-winning photographer, Martin Parr, is focusing on DZG as part of a community arts project aimed at capturing the spirit of the Black Country.
Financed by Heritage Lottery Funding Martin Parr’s Black Country Stories is a four-year Multistory programme celebrating everyday life across the boroughs of Wolverhampton, Walsall, Sandwell and Dudley.
Martin, a member of the prestigious Magnum Photos group, spent time on site shadowing Senior Keeper Laura Robbins.
Laura pictured right with Martin said: “It was really interesting working with Martin and hopefully he got some good shots. He will be making a return visit in the summer to boost his zoo images.”
Martin said: “When Multistory contacted me to ask if I might be interested in doing this photographic commission I couldn’t say yes fast enough!”
Laura has joined CEO Peter Suddock and Head of Media and Communications Jill Hitchman in contributing to the programme’s oral history. The trio have recorded life stories and zoo-related tales for the project which will be archived as part of a social history initiative.
Martin will be back at DZG later this summer look out for him on site on July 6!
