Magnum photographer at DZG

Award-winning photographer, Martin Parr, is focusing on DZG as part of a community arts project aimed at capturing the spirit of the Black Country.

dzg_martin_parr_3Financed by Heritage Lottery Funding Martin Parr’s Black Country Stories is a four-year Multistory programme celebrating everyday life across the boroughs of Wolverhampton, Walsall, Sandwell and Dudley.

Martin, a member of the prestigious Magnum Photos group, spent time on site shadowing Senior Keeper Laura Robbins.

Laura – pictured right with Martin – said: “It was really interesting working with Martin and hopefully he got some good shots. He will be making a return visit in the summer to boost his zoo images.”

Martin said: “When Multistory contacted me to ask if I might be interested in doing this photographic commission I couldn’t say yes fast enough!”

• Laura has joined CEO Peter Suddock and Head of Media and Communications Jill Hitchman in contributing to the programme’s oral history. The trio have recorded life stories and zoo-related tales for the project which will be archived as part of a social history initiative.

Martin will be back at DZG later this summer – look out for him on site on July 6!
