DZG was the subject of Lucy Harding’s school show and tell following her exciting keeper day experience.
Lucy, from Pontyclun, Mid Glamorgan, was treated to the day for her eighth birthday and was joined by her three aunties, parents and older brother, Jack, who all travelled with her to watch her take part.
Lucy’s mum, Elinor, said: “The day had been recommended to us by a friend and we all had an amazing time as there was so much to see and do the grown ups loved it as much as the children.”
Lucy joined keepers in helping muck out some of the farm animals, before getting the opportunity to hold a variety of small animals in the Discovery Centre.
She also tickled a tapir and helped feed the UK’s largest parent-reared colony of Humboldt penguins.
Elinor added: “Lucy had a really special birthday experience and loved being able to get so close to the animals. Dudley is best zoo we have been to. The keepers really made her day as they were so enthusiastic and informative. Lucy was a bit apprehensive at first but they put her at ease and she couldn’t stop talking about it all week.
“We took lots of photos which she took to school and used them to do a show and tell.”
