Asiatic lions Itar, Asha and Kyra can stay snug and warm outside thanks to a revamped heat pad.
The pad, beneath a sandpit in one-acre Lion Ridge, provides a favourite snoozing spot for the big cat trio and to cope with extra-chilly winter days keepers have relaid half-a-ton of sand in the pit to retain heat.
It’s grrreat outdoors for our Asiatic lions, thanks to a revamped heat pad.
Assistant Curator, Richard Brown, who carried out the work alongside section keeper Adam Walker, said: “The sand holds the heat from the pad, making the area stay warm for ages.
“The lions love it and they spend hours on it when the weather turns really cold.”
