A huge thank you to everyone who joined DZG’s World Lion Day celebrations and made it a roaring success.
More than 1,200 visitors joined us to learn more about the lion’s plight in the wild and to visit our two marvellous Asiatic lionesses, Kyra and Asha.
During the celebrations on Monday, August 10, the beautiful girls enjoyed some enrichment parcels in their one-acre Lion Ridge paddock – which member Donna Lane captured on camera above and below.
Many people also visited our information board in the Discovery Centre and youngsters took part in our interactive lion trail and filled in lion colouring sheets.
DZG Presenter Dorrie Hall, pictured above, said: “Enrichment proved a hit with Kyra and Asha, who loved their sacks filled with used animal bedding and pieces of chicken.
“We also collected donations for lion conservation funds throughout the day and we’re very grateful for everyone’s support.”
DZG is part of a major international conservation programme for the endangered Asiatic lion and works hard to highlight the importance of this worldwide project which is vital for the survival of these magnificent beasts.
