Kelli turns keeper!

Feeding penguins, tickling a tapir and handling snakes was all on the agenda for one young animal lover, who turned zoo keeper for the day here at DZG.

Kelli Green, from Melksham in Wiltshire, took part in a Little Zoo Keeper experience, where she got up close and personal to a wide variety of creatures great and small!

Kelli’s dad, Kelvin Green, said: “We chose Dudley Zoo as it was more than just a zoo and the site had a real history.

“Kelli really enjoyed the whole experience with the friendly zoo keeper, who had a wide ranging knowledge of the zoo, the animals and the castle; from learning about the preparation of their enclosures to the feeding, history and handling of the animals. It was well worth the two-hour drive.”

During the day Kelli handled rats, snakes and ferrets and hand fed sprats to the penguins at the poolside in Penguin Bay, and also found time to give Brazilian tapir, Chico, a quick tickle!

Little Zoo Keeper experiences are suitable for children aged between eight and 13 years old and take place from 10am until 1pm.
