Two volunteers from a Leicestershire animal sanctuary had a wild time with us as Keepers for a Day.
Jane Trevarthen, from Loughborough, and Val Clarke from Leicester, (pictured above) met through their volunteer work at Redgate Farm Animal Sanctuary in Markfield and decided to do the DZG Keeper experience together.
Jane said: “We are both retired and enjoy the volunteer work we do and one day I was showing Val pictures of when I became a keeper at Dudley Zoo five years ago.
“Val said she would love to do it and I said I was keen to do it again so we went for it, and had a wonderful time.
“I was worried I wouldn’t get so much out of it a second time, as I knew what to expect, but the day didn’t disappoint.
“The keepers and their enthusiasm for what they do really made the day.”
Jane said her favourites were the lemurs and tapirs and described the experience as a rare opportunity to get close to some fabulous creatures.
