A keeper day at DZG surpassed all expectations for Derbyshire husband and wife, Rob and Anne Watson.
Rob treated Anne to the experience for her 40th birthday after reading online reviews from other visitors and both thoroughly enjoyed their day.
Rob, who last visited the zoo as a child, said: “We couldn’t quite believe just how much we experienced and how hands on and interactive it was. We saw the new baby baboon, Billie, the day after he was born, fed the tigers, the snow leopard and saw the baby snow leopard. We gave the chimps a drink, had a great cuddle with the tapirs, flew a harris hawk and got mobbed by the lemurs – and that was all before we fed the giraffes!”
The couple got a unique insight into the life of a zoo keeper, moving from animal section to section throughout their day, working alongside staff from 10am until 4pm.
Rob added: “The keepers are an absolute credit to your facility, they were all engaging, helpful, extremely knowledgeable, friendly and appreciative of the fact that people pay a lot for the experience and are putting money back into the zoo and it is clear that they all care immensely for the animals in their charge.
“I would recommend the experience to anyone and what a great way to put some money into such a worthwhile organisation.”
